Maurice "Mo" Eugene Evans (born November 8, 1978) is a guard-forward with the Washington Wizards. Evans first made a name for himself in Europe, playing for Olympiacos in Greece and Benetton Treviso in Italy, where he helped his team win the Italian Cup in 2003 and was named the 2004 Eurobasket All-League Player of the Year.
Evans returned to the NBA in 2004 with the Sacramento Kings, and has since had a journeyman career, making six consecutive playoff appearances on five different squads, appearing in 56 postseason games. In 2005, Evans was signed by the Detroit Pistons as a free agent, where he averaged 11.7 points
per game. In 2006, he was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, where he played back up to Kobe Bryant. Evans then joined the Orlando Magic in 2007, where he became the Magic's starting shooting guard, contributing to the team's 52-30 record, and starting all 10 games for Orlando in the 2008 Playoffs. Starting in the summer of 2008, Evans joined the Atlanta Hawks, where he played until he was traded to the Washington Wizards in February 2011. A strong leader off the court as well, Evans is a vice president on the National Basketball Players Association executive committee, serving as a voice for all NBA players.
Hailing from Wichita, Kansas, Evans spent his college years with Wichita State University and then the University of Texas, where he led the longhorns in scoring, steals and three-point percentage. In 2011, Evans started the Mo Mentorship program in Atlanta, Georgia. The program's main goal is to expose at-risk males to a variety of positive influences and life-changing challenges.
Evans joined Team Converse in October 2006 and has since ingrained himself in the Converse Open Gym program in Atlanta, making several appearances to meet and interact with the local youth. On court, Evans wears the Converse Star Player Evo shoe.
