Demetri McCamey, Jr. (born February 21, 1989) in Bellwood, Illinois.  Demetri graduated in 2011 from the University of Illinois, where he led the fighting Illini his entire college basketball career (2007-11).

In high school, Demetri was part of a 2005 Chicago area sophomore class that was considered to be the best in the history of the state of Illinois. It included Derrick Rose and his St. Joseph's teammate Evan Turner. Isiah Thomas is St. Joseph's most famous basketball alum. However, Demetri was mentioned as "potentially the next great St. Joseph's product". His class of 2007 was compared to the Chicago area class of 1979 that included Thomas, Terry Cummings, and Darrell Walker, as well as the class of 1998 that included Quentin Richardson, Corey Maggette, Frank Williams, Bobby Simmons, and Michael Wright. Demetri was considered the second best area prospect after Derrick Rose.

During his final season at the University of Illinois, Demetri was a preseason First Team All-Conference selection by the Big Ten media for the 2010–11 Big Ten Conference Men's basketball season.  He was a preseason top 50 candidate for the Wooden Award.   In December 2010,  he was named to the 67-man Bob Cousy Award watchlist. On January 3, 2011, he was named co-Big Ten Player of the Week.  Demetri was also named on the Naismith Award Midseason Top 30 List.

Demetri was selected by the United States Basketball Writers Association to its 2010–11 Men's All-District Team and was among the final ten candidates for the Bob Cousy Award.

In the 2011 NBA Draft Demetri went undrafted. Later, while the NBA was in the midst of a lockout, Demetri signed with the Mersin Buyuksehir Belediyesi basketball club of Turkey (8/11 - 11/11). In December 2011, Demetri furthered his professional career and signed with Hapoel Migdel of Jerusalem.

As a senior at Illinois, led the team in scoring for 3rd straight season with 14.6 points per game, ranked No. 10 in the nation with 6.1 assist and 3.4 rebounds per game

Finished career ranked No. 6 on Illinois' all-time scoring list with 1,718 points and 3rd in the Big Ten history with 733 assist.
